Touring an underwater city loaded with weird science and crazy people who look like walking pieces of abstract art. Ah, but don't forget -- you can shoot lighting from your fingertips "Fingertips" is a 1963 number-one hit single recorded live by "Little" Stevie Wonder for Motown's Tamla label. Wonder's first hit single, "Fingertips" was the first live, non-studio recording to reach number-one on the Billboard Pop Singles chart in the United States. . Welcome to the world of BioShock, a brilliantly warped piece of digital entertainment that will hold your free time hostage and rarely, if ever, loosen its grip. The story takes place in 1960, with you in the role of the plane-crash survivor and unlucky hero. The city is Rapture, and it's the brainchild of Andrew Ryan This article is about the rugby player Andrew Ryan. For the Bioshock character, see Bioshock. Andrew Ryan (born December 2, 1978, Dubbo, New South Wales) is an Australian professional rugby league player in the National Rugby League and currently captains , sort of a twisted cross between Citizen Kane Citizen Kane rich and powerful man drives away friends by use of power. [Am. Cinema: Halliwell, 149] See : Arrogance and an evil Walt Disney. Rapture was supposed to be a paradise of free-thinkers and artists. But you quickly find that it's become a gigantic haunted house, with bloody and butchered nutballs called "splicers" charging at you from every corner. At the core of the game-play experience is the ability to genetically enhance the hero with "plasmids," which grant him special mutantlike powers. The first one you get is a bolt of lightning from the fingertips. But eventually, you're able to light stuff on fire, conjure up a small cyclone, or launch a swarm of killer bees Killer Bees Those who help a company fend off a takeover attempt with the use of defensive strategies. Notes: Companies, usually with the help of investment bankers, use a number of strategies to repel a hostile takeover bid including, but are not limited to: poison out of your left arm. The game uses the environment to encourage you to play around with the plasmids. For instance, seeing enemies standing next to leaky gas tanks could mean time to light the leaky trail on fire and watch them burn, or at least blow up. If you see some splicers standing in a deep puddle, toss a lightning bolt in there for a morbid light show. In addition to the plasmids, you also have a solid selection of weapons. You start off with a wrench, but eventually get your hands on shotguns, flamethrowers and machine guns. All of the weapons are upgradeable (you can visibly see little cosmetic changes), as are the plasmids. The minor concerns I have with the game are how it handles death and the somewhat clumsy way you have to flip through your weapons and plasmids during battle. You don't really "die" in BioShock, you just reform in one of the many "vita-chambers" in the map. Any enemies you were fighting before death return with the same level of health, so you can technically outlast out·last tr.v. out·last·ed, out·last·ing, out·lasts To last longer than. outlast Verb to last longer than Verb 1. everyone you face. Just keep coming back. I wasn't too bothered by it, but I can see it cheapening the experience for some. If you can get past that (and the fact there's no multiplayer) I would put BioShock near the top of the list for must-play titles. It's the most fun you'll have being creeped out. redmond.carolipio@dailybulletin.com BIOSHOCK - Three and one half stars >Publisher: 2K Games. >Platform: Xbox 360. >Rating: M for Mature. >In a nutshell: A brilliantly warped piece of digital entertainment. video games> John Woo Presents Stranglehold Chow Yun-Fat and John Woo's gun-fu tricks on a next-gen system.
