 GERD H. KLAUSS APPOINTED VICE PRESIDENT OF AUDI OF AMERICA, INC.
 AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced the appointment of Gerd H. Klauss to the position of vice president, Audi of America, Inc. Klauss succeeds Richard L. Mugg who will retire Oct. 1, 1992.
 Klauss will be responsible for sales, marketing and executive management of Audi of America. He will report to VWoA President and Chief Executive Officer William J. Young.
 Mugg is retiring from the Volkswagen organization after 34 years. He began as a Volkswagen salesman in 1958 and held several regional assignments before he joined VWoA as advertising manager in 1970. His executive appointments included vice president, Regional Operations, and vice president, Corporate Marketing. In 1988, he was named vice president in charge of Audi of America.
 "Under Dick's leadership, Audi has come back -- in customer satisfaction, in quality and in sales," said Young. "Dick set the standard for dedication and commitment. It has been a privilege working with him."
 Dr. Klauss, 47, brings to Audi more than 18 years of automotive experience. He most recently served as vice president, Corporate Development for Mercedes-Benz of North America, Inc., where he was responsible for development and coordination of overall corporate strategies as well as strategic positioning within the parent company's worldwide business ventures.
 "Gerd has made significant marketing contributions in the European luxury segment," said Young. "It is a pleasure to welcome him to Audi of America."
 After receiving his Ph.D. in economics at the University of Bonn, Germany, Klauss joined Daimler-Benz AG as an assistant to the member of the Board of Management in charge of worldwide sales.
 At Mercedes-Benz of North America, Klauss held a number of management and executive positions, including vice president, Marketing; vice president, Operations; general manager for Marketing Communications, and general manager for Marketing Planning.
 Klauss completed post graduate studies at Harvard University and the University of Lyon, France.
 He and his wife, Kathryn, have two children, Patrick, 15, and Christina, 11.
