GEORGIANS SET NEW PEAK DEMAND RECORD

ATLANTA, June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia electricity consumers have established a new all-time weekday record for energy demand in a one- hour period, breaking the previous record set last year.
Peak demand for electricity across the state reached the new milestone between 4 and 5 p.m., eclipsing the August 11, 1992, record of 11,454,000 kilowatts.
The final record figure will not be known until calculations are completed later this evening. The new record peak includes power supplied to Georgia Power customers, as well as customers of the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia.
From June 1, 1992 to May 31, 1993, Georgia Power added 25,650 residential customers to its existing base of 1.6 million customers.
Company officials said this peak record was set relatively early in the year. The earliest recorded peak in Georgia Power's history occurred on June 6, 1985.
