GEORGIA-PACIFIC ANNOUNCES VICE CHAIRMAN TO RETIRE

GEORGIA-PACIFIC ANNOUNCES VICE CHAIRMAN TO RETIRE
 ATLANTA, June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia-Pacific Corp. (NYSE: GP)

today reported that Ronald P. Hogan, vice chairman, has chosen to retire and resign as a director, effective July 31, after 27 years of service.
Hogan will pursue private business interests.
"Ron Hogan has been a valuable member of Georgia-Pacific's executive management team," T. Marshall Hahn Jr., chairman and chief executive officer, said. "When it was clear, after numerous discussions, that it was unlikely Ron would succeed to the CEO position at the end of 1993, we decided his early retirement would be mutually beneficial. This gives Ron the flexibility to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities in which he has interest. There are no plans to fill the position of vice chairman.
"Our company has benefited tremendously from Ron's wide-ranging expertise in the forest products industry, and I am confident his talents will greatly enhance his future business associations," Hahn said. "We wish him success in his endeavors."
Hogan joined Georgia-Pacific in 1965, serving in numerous positions within the company's Distribution Division before his election in 1987 as executive vice president -- operations. He was named executive vice president -- building products in 1988 and elected president and chief operating officer in 1989. Hogan was named vice chairman in 1991.
