GEORGIA ELECTRIC MEMBERSHIP CORPORATION AND OGLETHORPE POWER TO MERGE SERVICES, STAFF

 GEORGIA ELECTRIC MEMBERSHIP CORPORATION
AND OGLETHORPE POWER TO MERGE SERVICES, STAFF
ATLANTA, April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia Electric Membership Corporation (GEMC) and Oglethorpe Power Corporation will merge staffs and services under a plan approved this week by each organization's board of directors.
Oglethorpe Power provides wholesale electricity to 39 of Georgia's 42 consumer-owned electric cooperatives, while GEMC provides legislative, training and other services to the state's electric co-ops.
The two organizations have been led by a common CEO, Tom D. Kilgore, since December.
Under the plan, both power- and non-power-related services would be provided to the state's cooperatives by the same joint organization, using a single staff. However, each corporation would remain as a separate entity with its own board of directors.
Kilgore said the decision to integrate the two organizations was based on a desire "to provide the state's electric cooperatives with the best possible service in the most efficient manner.
"By combining our talents into one joint organization, we can meet the needs of our customers much more effectively in the future," he said.
