GEORGIA'S COOPERATIVES GEAR UP TO HELP RESTORE FLORIDA POWER OUTAGES
ATLANTA, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia's electric cooperatives this afternoon began gearing up to provide assistance to electric utilities in Florida who suffered power outages and other damage as a result of Hurricane Andrew's landfall earlier in the day.
Greg Jones, a spokesman for Georgia Electric Membership Corporation, said a number of cooperatives around the state have volunteered crews, materials or equipment that can be used if needed to help restore power in storm-ravaged areas of Florida.
"Georgia's electric cooperatives have always been there to help neighboring states during a disaster," he said. "Cooperative crews, vehicles and supplies played a major role in the restoration efforts in the Carolinas in the aftermath of Hurricane Hugo, and we want to do whatever we can this time as well."
