GEOPAK to Debut New-Generation Site Modeling Tool at A/E/C SYSTEMS '98 Show; Newly Released GEOPAK '98 On Display.

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 1998--GEOPAK, a Bentley Strategic Affiliate, today announced plans for exhibiting at A/E/C SYSTEMS '98, to be held June 3-5, 1998, in Chicago, IL at McCormick Place. Center-stage at the show will be GEOPAK's new GEOPAK(R) '98 product line, featuring GEOPAK Site, a new 2D/3D product developed from the ground up to address the traditional site engineering process. GEOPAK will exhibit its solutions in booth 406.

"The new GEOPAK Site brings a lot of value--to our company and our clients," says Craig Miller, P.E., president of Miller Consulting, Inc. in Deerfield Beach, Florida. "We can explore the most cost-effective design scenarios and automatically balance cut-and-fill--important savings in areas that have required untold hours in the past."

The new GEOPAK Site is the first site engineering product to integrate digital terrain modeling (DTM) with the site design process. Unlike most site software available today, GEOPAK Site allows users to interactively place and manipulate site features without merging or extracting graphics into the DTM.

"Based on extensive needs analyses and studies of existing technologies, this new product streamlines the site engineering process to a degree that greatly enhances productivity," says Gabriel F. Norona, CEO of GEOPAK Corporation. "For the first time, site engineers will be able to interactively move features such as building pads in a single step."

GEOPAK Site offers unprecedented flexibility in interactively working with site designs without the limitations of traditional iterative steps. No cumbersome triangle or point editing is necessary. The software maintains existing ground and provides full control over defining elevations and side slopes and balancing cut-and-fill. Analytical tools are included to afford powerful evaluation of site designs.

GEOPAK Site is presently in beta. The software is suitable for a wide range of projects, from commercial or manufacturing building sites to subdivision design. Included is the full complement of GEOPAK's renowned DTM and drainage analysis capabilities, as well as tools for evaluating the site design and producing drawings and site models.

The release of the new GEOPAK '98 product line being demonstrated at A/E/C Systems '98 will include major enhancements to coordinate geometry (COGO (COordinate GeOmetry) A programming language used for solving civil engineering problems.) and terrain modeling. The release tightens integration between COGO and survey point data and easy modification and visualization of combined data. GEOPAK Drainage adds extensive culvert design capabilities.

As a Strategic Affiliate of Bentley, GEOPAK develops and supports a full line of civil design and engineering software, based on Bentley's MicroStation(R) software. Its GEOPAK Civil Engineering Software is used today by the Federal Highway Administration, the United States Army Corps of Engineers, 18 departments of transportation, and thousands of engineering consultants worldwide. Additionally, GEOPAK develops GeoTerrain by GEOPAK(TM), DTM software utilized with MicroStation GeoGraphics(R) software. Together, GEOPAK and Bentley develop the GeoTransport(TM) family of products for advanced transportation management.

In recent months, GEOPAK signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA FHWA - Federal Highway Administration (US DoT)) to implement the Interactive Highway Safety Design Model (IHSDM IHSDM - Interactive Highway Safety Design Model) in the GEOPAK Civil Engineering Suite of software--the standard at the FHWA and at 14 state DOTs. This implementation will give highway planners and designers the means to evaluate the safety implications of highway design alternatives within the CAD environment, from planning through final design stages. GEOPAK executives will be on hand in the GEOPAK booth to discuss support for IHSDM, which the FHWA aims to apply across the nation's entire highway system.
