GENTEX CORPORATION DECLARES STOCK DIVIDEND

ZEELAND, Mich., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Gentex Corporation has declared a 2-for-1 stock split effected in the form of a 100 percent common stock dividend for each outstanding share of the Company's common stock, par value $.06 per share, to be issued to shareholders of record at the close of business on May 28, 1993. The Zeeland-based developer and manufacturer of automatic-dimming mirrors and commercial fire protection products made this announcement Thursday at its annual meeting of shareholders.
"We believe that Gentex will benefit in two ways from this stock split," Gentex Executive Vice President Kenneth La Grand said. "First, it will improve the marketability of the Company's common stock to individual shareholders, effectively doubling the number of shares outstanding to approximately 16.1 million.
"In addition, a stock price in the mid-teens makes it easier for individuals to diversify their portfolios. The lower stock price, combined with the strong fundamental performance exhibited by Gentex, should make the Company an even more attractive investment to the individual investor as well as the entire financial community.
"Secondly, as a greater number of individuals become shareholders and are aware of the Gentex Night Vision Safety(TM) Mirror products, our experience has convinced us that the resulting word-of-mouth advertising will help to increase the installation rate of our mirrors on vehicles."
La Grand noted that if a shareholder is contemplating a sale from the record date (May 28, 1993) to the issue date (June 18, 1993), he or she should consult a broker as to any entitlement to the split shares. Shareholders entitled to new shares of stock will receive certificates shortly after the issue date of June 18, 1993.
Gentex Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: GNTX) is headquartered in Zeeland.
