GENKI RAINS IN SPRINT CHARGE.

Byline: ROCKAVON

THE cavalry charge in the Stewards' Cup was only visible in the closing stages because of rain and mist.

But there was a clearcut winner as the massive field of sprinters came into view at not-so-glorious Goodwood.

Genki (14-1) pulled away from his rivals to land the pounds 62,000 pot in some style.

Roger Charlton's five-year-old, ridden by Steve Drowne, took the ultra-competitive handicap by a length from Evens And Odds (33-1). Top weight Knot In Wood (10-1) was a gallant third, three-quarters of a length away, with Markab (15-2 favourite) fourth.

Delighted jockey Drowne said: "When I got to the front on my side the others started to come back.

"We must have been 10 to 15 lengths behind those on the far side at halfway so he has done exceptionally well to pick them up."

Consistent Midday finally gained a well-deserved Group One success after being placed in two Classics when easily landing the Blue Square Nassau Stakes The Nassau Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in the United Kingdom for three-year-old and above thoroughbred fillies and mares. It is run over a distance of 1 mile 1 furlong and 192 yards (1,986 metres) at Goodwood Racecourse during the Glorious Goodwood meeting in late July or .

The Henry Cecil-trained filly (11-2), ridden by Tom Queally, ploughed through the testing conditions in tremendous style to win from 5-2 jolly Rainbow View.

Cecil said: "I nearly pulled her out but lost my bottle."

Eastern Aria provided trainer Mark Johnston with his fifth winner of Glorious Goodwood in the Blue Square poker.com Stakes.

Greg Fairley booted the 14-1 shot into the lead at the two pole and the filly never looked back.
