GENERON SYSTEMS INCREASES ITS GLOBAL CAPACITY

GENERON SYSTEMS INCREASES ITS GLOBAL CAPACITY
NEW YORK, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Generon Systems today announced

that it added an additional 660 tons of non-cryogenic nitrogen production per day during its 1991 fiscal year which ended in October. This additional volume was on a worldwide basis. This increase was higher than the installed capacity Generon Systems added during 1990, when 550 tons per day were added. Generon Systems produces approximately 2,200 tons of nitrogen per day.
"Over the past three years, the acceptance of non-cryogenic nitrogen technology has increased to the point that non-cryogenic nitrogen is a vitally important part of the total industry," said Michael A. Porter, president and chief executive officer of Generon Systems. "This increased acceptance combined with our superior technology has allowed Generon Systems to maintain the global market share lead."
Generon Systems believes that the uses for both Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) and hollow fiber membrane technology will become more widespread. To that end, the Dow Chemical/BOC Group joint venture has committed to a multi-million dollar expansion of its membrane module manufacturing facility and continues to devote several million dollars a year to research and development of both technologies.
"The improvements in both technologies, costs and efficiencies are -- and will continue to be -- significant," Porter said. The nitrogen plants Generon Systems placed around the world were larger and operated at higher purities than those placed during 1990. Generon Systems and its parent companies are committed to the continued advancement of their separation technology. "The range of possibilities for companies interested in non-cryogenic technology is wider than it ever has been," Porter said.
Generon Systems' corporate headquarters is located in Houston. Generon Systems is a joint venture of the Dow Chemical Company of Midland, Mich., and the BOC Group of Windlesham-Surrey, England.
