GENERAL SIGNAL BUYS REMAINING INTEREST IN THUN HANDEL GMBH

STAMFORD, Conn., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- General Signal Corporation (NYSE: GSX) announced today that it has purchased the outstanding 25 percent interest in Thun Handel GmbH, a manufacturer of bicycle equipment parts, from Thun's shareholders. The stock purchase price was not disclosed.
General Signal originally acquired a 75 percent interest in Thun Handel GmbH in 1983, when it incorporated the company's bicycle parts operations, based in Tennessee, into its Metal Forge unit, headquartered in Ohio. According to Peter Laing, senior vice president for General Signal's electrical controls unit, the purchase consolidates General Signal's control over what has been a successful bicycle parts operation for its Metal Forge unit.
General Signal Corporation, with 1992 sales of $1.6 billion, is a leading manufacturer of instruments and equipment for the process control, electrical, and industrial technology industries.
