GENERAL SIGNAL ACQUIRES ELECTRICAL FITTINGS PRODUCT LINE
STAMFORD, Conn., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- According to an announcement

made today by Edmund M. Carpenter, chairman and chief executive officer of General Signal Corporation (NYSE: GSX), the company has completed the acquisition of substantially all of the assets of Northwest Alabama Industries (NAI) for General Signal's Connecticut-based O-Z/Gedney unit.
NAI, located in Winfield, Ala., manufactures an all-steel line of electrical metal tubing, connectors, and couplings. This acquisition complements O-Z/Gedney's broad line of electrical fittings, enclosures, controls, and industrial lighting product lines, which serve a variety of non-residential and non-building construction market segments, and brings O-Z Gedney's annual sales volume to approximately $80 million.
Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Carpenter said, "We will continue to make strategic 'bolt-on' acquisitions -- this being our ninth this year -- to augment the growth of our key business segments."
General Signal Corporation, with sales of $1.6 billion, is a leading manufacturer of equipment and instruments for the process control, electrical, semiconductor, and telecommunications industries.
