:LOR), has entered into a contract with the City of Manassas to establish a telecommuting telecommuting, an arrangement by which people work at home using a computer and telephone, transmitting work material to a business office by means of a modem and telephone lines; it is also known as telework.  facility for the U. S. General Services Administration The General Services Administration (GSA) was established by section 101 of the Federal Property and Administrative Services Act of 1949 (40 U.S.C.A. § 751). The GSA sets policy for and manages government property and records.  that will support approximately 100 federal workers who normally travel more than 50 round-trip miles daily to various federal agencies in Washington, D.C.

Loral will allocate 5,000 square feet of space at its Manassas facility to be renovated for GSA's fifth telecommuting site in the Washington area, and furnish the center with up to 35 data processing workstations, telecommunications services, and administrative support. The Loral Federal Systems-Manassas site provides ample parking, excellent security and on-site dining services. The center is scheduled to open in late summer 1995.

The federal government's telecommuting center program is financed by an existing $6 million congressional appropriation.
