NEW YORK, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The General Motors (NYSE: GM) board

of directors elected two new officers at today's meeting. Bruce G. MacDonald and Roy S. Roberts have been named vice presidents of the corporation according to General Motors Chairman Robert C. Stempel.
Mr. MacDonald was promoted to vice president in charge of the corporate communications staff. He became executive-in-charge of that staff when it was restructured in July.
Mr. Roberts becomes vice president and general manager of the GMC Truck Division. He has been manufacturing manager of the Flint Automotive Division, and succeeds Lewis B. Campbell who recently resigned from GM.
Mr. MacDonald, 53, has been with GM since 1963 in a variety of public relations positions involving media relations, product promotion, community relations, corporate issues and special events. He held PR management posts at Chevrolet and Pontiac, and was director of GM's New York public affairs office serving the northeastern U.S. Before returning to GM headquarters, he was vice president of communications at the Saturn Corporation.
Mr. MacDonald holds degrees from the University of Michigan and Michigan State University and is an accredited fellow of the Public Relations Society of America. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army War College and currently serves as a brigadier general in the U.S. Army Reserve.
An Arkansas native, the 53-year-old Mr. Roberts joined GM in 1977 and held various management assignments at component manufacturing operations in Grand Rapids, Mich., and Rochester, N.Y., before being promoted to manager of GM's Tarrytown (N.Y.) assembly plant. He was subsequently named vice president of personnel administration and development, and held that post in 1988 when he left GM to become vice president and general manager of truck operations for Navistar International Corporation.
He returned to GM in 1990, and was manufacturing manager for the Cadillac Motor Car Division before transferring to Flint earlier this year.
Mr. Roberts is a director of the National Urban League and a member of the executive committee of the Boy Scouts of America. A graduate of Western Michigan University, he has completed the Harvard Management Development Program and the International Advanced General Management Program in Vevey, Switzerland. He is a recipient of honorary degrees awarded by Florida A&M and Grand Valley State University of Michigan, and serves as a trustee at both Western Michigan and the Morehouse School of Medicine.
Mr. MacDonald will continue to report to F. Alan Smith, executive vice president in charge of the corporate support group. Mr. Roberts will report to J. Michael Losh, vice president and group executive in charge of North American vehicle sales and marketing. Both appointments are effective immediately.
