GENERAL DYNAMICS UNDERWRITES ATF'S GUNS HOTLINE
 IN WASHINGTON METRO AREA
WASHINGTON, May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Stephen E. Higgins, director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and Alan Chase, corporate vice president, General Dynamics, announced today a campaign to advertise ATF's Guns Hotline in the Washington area.
Beginning on May 25, ads promoting the 800-ATF-GUNS hotline will appear on a regular basis in newspapers, magazines, outdoor advertising, bus shelters and radio PSAs in the Washington area. The campaign will run through October 1992.
The Washington metropolitan area guns hotline was activated on Jan. 23, 1992. There have been over 300 calls to the Washington Field Division.
Higgins said, "This campaign was developed by General Dynamics and is an exceptionally generous effort by them and shows an extraordinary commitment to the community."
Chase said, "Hopefully, our contribution will help ATF as it works with area police forces in curbing gun-related crimes."
Citizens call the hotline number to report criminals in possession of firearms, trafficking in firearms and to provide information about armed drug traffickers.
Nationally, there have been nearly 2,400 calls to the 800-ATF-GUNS Hotline. Not included in this number are over 100 calls to the ATF Los Angeles office since the disturbances in Los Angeles. ATF agents and local police are already following up on this information.
