GENERAL DATACOMM INDUSTRIES REPORTS THIRD QUARTER RESULTS; REVENUES CLIMB 8.9 PERCENT; COMPANY RECORDS NET INCOME OVER NET LOSS A YEAR AGO
MIDDLEBURY, Conn., July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- General DataComm Industries, Inc. (NYSE: GDC) today announced that revenues for its fiscal 1992 third quarter ended June 30, 1992 rose 8.9 percent to $50.3 million.
This compares with revenues of $46.2 million for the same period last year.
Operating income for the third quarter totaled $1.3 million against an operating loss of $221,000 for the June period a year ago, a period which included a $1.1 million restructuring charge.
Net income was $621,000 or $.04 per share compared to a net loss of $1.5 million or ($.10) per share last year.
Revenues for the nine months ended June 30, 1992 totaled $144 million against revenues of $143.8 million for the nine months of fiscal 1991. Net income was $1.3 million or $.09 per share, compared to a net loss of $908,000 or ($.06) per share a year ago.
"Our digital business continues to grow," commented Charles P. Johnson, chairman and chief executive officer. "This is due in part to LAN users' needs for higher speeds and reliability, and the continued reduction of rates for digital private line services in the United States. In the last quarter we also shipped digital products, including our High-Speed Network Terminating Units, to several foreign PTTs. In the upcoming quarter, we are introducing additional digital products, and we expect that this digital trend will continue.
"Economic conditions remain variable throughout the world," Johnson continued, "so GDC continues to follow its aggressive program of cost containment measures in our drive for maximum efficiency."
