GENERAL DATACOMM AND SIEMENS SIGN GLOBAL SYSTEM INTEGRATOR CONTRACT FOR GDC APEX SWITCHES; 3 Year Contract To Sell GDC's APEX ATM Switches.

MIDDLEBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 12, 1995--General DataComm Industries, Inc. (NYSE-GDC), the leader in providing real business solutions based on Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) products and services, announced today it has signed a three year global systems integrator contract with Siemens. Details of the contract have not been released; however, the value of the agreement is estimated at approximately $30 million.

Under the terms of the agreement Siemens AG, Public Communications Networks Group will sell APEX ATM switches as an integrated part of ATM network infrastructure programs worldwide.

Worldwide, Siemens has received 30 orders for ATM-based switching technology, making it the leading provider of this base technology that is a prerequisite for the multimedia market of the future. Siemens' presence in the ATM marketplace is reflected in orders from PTT's and other network operators in Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, France, Portugal, Japan and the United States (US West and Sprint).
