GENERAL DATACOMM AND CROSSCOMM INK JOINT DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT AND
 $10 MILLION EXTENSION TO OEM CONTRACT
 MIDDLEBURY, Conn., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- General DataComm, Inc. (NYSE: GDC) has announced a joint development and marketing partnership with CrossComm Corporation (NASDAQ: XCOM), a leading supplier of Local Area Network (LAN) internetworking products. The pact will lead to a new generation of multimedia internetworking systems for the connectivity of voice, video, image, data and LAN traffic through Wide Area Networking facilities.
 The joint development partnership will combine CrossComm's Universal Routing Architecture and GDC's Wide Area Networking technology to produce a broad range of communications products for large corporations. The new products will utilize multiple RISC processors and software to support Frame Relay and routing of SNA and a range of LAN based protocols.
 Charles P. Johnson, General DataComm's chairman and chief executive officer, said, "We're pleased to announce this partnership with CrossComm. It will accelerate GDC's thrust into evolving communications technologies. Adding CrossComm's expertise in the LAN environment to GDC's expertise in Wide Area Networking will produce a superior LAN/WAN solution for our customers."
 Tad Witkowicz, president of CrossComm, said, "The development agreement with General DataComm comes at a time when corporate MIS is seeing the need to merge LANs, WANs and SNA networks into a single robust network. This partnership will create products that combine state-of-the-art WAN technologies, such as Frame Relay with Protocol Independent Routing of SNA, Netbios and LAN protocols found in the corporate environment."
 The planned availability is early 1993 for this new generation of multimedia internetworking systems.
 The marketing partnership includes a $10 million dollar extension to the existing OEM contract for CrossComm's Universal Routing Architecture based products, which GDC markets as its LAN*TMS product family.
 General DataComm, Inc. is a leading provider of multimedia networks and communications equipment worldwide. Based in Connecticut, GDC serves corporate customers and telephone operating companies throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia/New Zealand.
 Marlboro, Mass.-based CrossComm Corporation manufactures internetworking products for customers that primarily use IBM and Token Ring networks. CrossComm's principal product, ILAN, interconnects LANs and facilitates the consolidation of SNA and LAN networks into an enterprise-wide communications system.
