PLANO, Texas -- GENBAND[TM] Inc., a leading provider of IMS-based telecommunications applications and infrastructure products enabling converged IP multimedia services, today announced that it has shipped its millionth G6[R] Universal Media Gateway voice port.

Introduced to the market in early 2001, the G6 Universal Media Gateway has evolved to meet the ever-changing demands of a variety of service providers needing to migrate from Class 5 network infrastructures to softswitch-controlled networks. GENBAND's G6 customers range from the largest North American incumbent service providers to independent telephone companies, and large and small competitive and cable service providers across the globe.

The G6 Universal Media Gateway is RUS listed, OSMINE certified, PacketCable[TM] qualified, NEBS-3 certified and produced in a TL 9000 registered quality management system. An open standard circuit-to-packet platform, the G6 is deployed today in service provider switching offices, headends and various Points of Presence all over the world. Scaling from 240 to over 16,128 simultaneous sessions, the G6 enables voice communications between packet-based networks and circuit-based networks.

Proven interoperable with and simultaneously supporting the leading Class 5 switches, softswitches, SIP application servers, digital loop carriers (DLCs), and customer premises equipment (CPE), the G6 platform uniquely enables service providers to accelerate VoIP services and network migration by leveraging their existing and next generation network assets.
