GENBAND Introduces New Line of IMS-Based Multimedia Products and Solutions for Wireline, Cable, and Wireless Service Providers.

PLANO, Texas -- New Call Control, Enhanced Applications, and Signaling Products to Complement Industry Leading Universal Media Gateway Providing Flexible Migration to Converged Services

GENBAND Inc., a leading provider of telecommunications infrastructure products enabling converged services, announced today a new portfolio of products for signaling, call control, and enhanced applications that are designed to help incumbent wireline, cable, wireless, or competitive service providers deliver multimedia services and easily migrate to an IMS (1) See IP Multimedia Subsystem.

 architecture.

The new C2 Signaling Controller and S4 Applications Server have been introduced to complement GENBAND's flagship G6(R) Universal Media Gateway. Deployed individually or together as a best-of-breed signaling, application and media gateway solution, GENBAND's new IMS-based multimedia products reduce network operating expense while driving increased average revenue per user (ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) A calculation often used to determine the overall value of an application. It is also used to rate particular customers, especially in the wireless space, by comparing someone's account to the overall average. ).

S4 Applications Server

GENBAND's S4 Applications Server enables revenue-enhancing communication services over any IP network and provides a full suite of Class 5 residential and small business services, as well as exciting new enhanced features such as web-based customer portals and self-provisioning. Based on a scalable, commercially available NEBS-3 platform, the S4 Applications Server provides an economical system for service providers to offer revenue enhancing communication services. Designed for both wireline and cable providers, GENBAND's new S4 platform provides robust TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) A technology that transmits multiple signals simultaneously over a single transmission path. Each lower-speed signal is time sliced into one high-speed transmission.  or IP services enabling service providers to gracefully migrate TDM networks to IMS based services. Either supplementing the G6 and/or C2 platform, or as a best of breed stand-alone application solution, the S4 platform offers robust Class 5 VoIP and supports SIP, MGCP See MGCP/MEGACO.

The S4 platform is designed for deployment flexibility with both a SIP interface to the signaling / PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) The worldwide voice telephone network. Once only an analog system, the heart of most telephone networks today is all digital. C2 Signaling Controller

GENBAND's C2 Signaling Controller is a powerful new, IMS compliant product featuring market-leading SIP to SS7 and media gateway control capabilities -- packaged in a highly redundant, NEBS-3 platform. With the C2 platform, service providers who deploy SIP networks can now have full access to SS7 services enabling the use of ISUP (ISDN User Part) See SS7.  trunks and TCAP (Transaction Capabilities Application Part) The protocol used in an SS7 network for sending database queries to a service control point (SCP). The SCP provides the interface to local and remote databases that contain subscriber and routing information.  databases as well as full support for PRI PRI: see Institutional Revolutionary party.

and MF-CAS trunks for transitioning calls to/from the PSTN. With its SIP to SS7 gateway function, the C2 platform terminates SS7 links and interworks SS7 signaling with SIP while providing an IMS compliant Media Gateway Control Function (MGCF) for connectivity to the PSTN.

"GENBAND's G6 platform has established itself in several of the largest incumbent wireline and cable carriers within North America," said Matt Davis, Director, Consumer Multiplay Services at IDC. "The addition of technology that provides service providers the capability of deploying advanced IP-based services should help better position the company as a broader multimedia solutions provider."

A demonstration of GENBAND's converged services product portfolio will be conducted at TelecomNEXT Conference and Exhibition in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas on March 21-22, Booth 1039.

"Today marks a new era in the evolution of our company," stated Charles Vogt, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "In parallel with these new products, General Bandwidth is becoming GENBAND and we are establishing our corporate headquarters in Plano, Texas. We have had strong demand for our media gateway products over the last 18 months; securing 41 new customers in 2005, 80 in total. With our new call control and SIP-based application products complemented by our award winning G6 universal media gateway, we believe we are well positioned with the wireline, cable, and wireless operators as they migrate their networks to an IMS architecture."

Flagship G6 Universal Media Gateway

GENBAND's award-winning G6 Universal Media Gateway is a standards-based circuit-to-packet platform that is deployed in over 80 service provider networks, having been deployed within switching office, head-end and Point of Presence (POP) locations. It enables voice communications between packet-based networks and circuit-based networks. Proven interoperable with and simultaneously supporting the leading Class 5 switches, softswitches, SIP application servers, digital loop carriers (DLCs), and customer premises equipment See CPE.  (CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) Communications equipment that resides on the customer's premises.
