GEMS Principals honored by the Indian Government.

Two GEMS Principals in the UAE have been honored by the Government of India for their outstanding contribution to the teaching profession.

Thomas Mathew, principal of Our Own High School Sharjah -- Boys Branch, has been awarded the CBSE CBSE Central Board of Secondary Education
CBSE Component-Based Software Engineering
CBSE Center for Biophysical Sciences and Engineering
CBSE Center for Biomolecular Science & Engineering
CBSE Computer-Based System Engineering
 Teacher Award, 2008, and Aziz Akhtar, Principal of Our Own Indian School, has received the National Teacher Award 2008 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The awards are presented annually to educationalists who make a meaningful difference to the student and teaching community.

Both Principals were presented the awards by Kapil Sibal Kapil Sibal was born in Jalandhar, Punjab on August 8 1948. He obtained his M.A. in History from St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi, Delhi and LL.M. from Harvard Law School, USA.

He was offered appointment to the Indian Administrative Service, but declined the offer.

The human resources department within an organization, years ago known as the "personnel department," manages the administrative aspects of the employees.  Development, Government of India, at different functions held to celebrate 'Teacher's Day' in India. Akhtar received the award from the Minister and Vice -- President of India The President of India (Hindi: Rashtrapati) is the head of state and first citizen of India and the Supreme Commander of the Indian armed forces. Mathew has worked in the field of education for the last 26 years and has been with GEMS Education for the past 14 years. Earlier, he founded the Air Force Vidya Bharati Established in the Year 1977, Vidya Bharati Akhil Bhartiya Shikshan Sansthan has today earned the distinction of being the largest single Organisation in the field of EDUCATION. Under the umbrella of Vidya Bharti, over 18,000 educational institutions operate in Bharat.  School in Gwalior, India and also served as the principal of Hamdard Public School, a boarding school in New Delhi New Delhi (dĕl`ē), city (1991 pop. 294,149), capital of India and of Delhi state, N central India, on the right bank of the Yamuna River. .

With more than 30 years of experience in education Akhtar has been working with GEMS Education for the past 9 years. Our Own Indian School has grown under his leadership. He has also authored several books in General Science and Chemistry and enjoys theatre and sports.

The Teacher's Day is celebrated annually on September 5 in India to mark the birth anniversary of the country's first vice-president, second president and eminent educationalist Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. 2009 Al Bawaba (www.albawaba.com)
