GE PLASTICS NAMES IMMELT TO HEAD AMERICAS OPERATION

 PITTSFIELD, Mass., July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Gary L. Rogers, president and chief executive officer of GE Plastics, today announced the appointment of Jeffrey R. Immelt as vice president and general manager of GE Plastics Americas.
 Immelt succeeds Nigel D.T. Andrews, who has been named an executive vice president for GE Capital, headquartered in Stamford, Conn. Both appointments are effective Aug. 1.
 "Jeff's broad experience in market development will be extremely helpful as we continue to expand on our recent gains in the marketplace," said Rogers. "He brings a strong focus on customer satisfaction, a key element in our continuing growth and success."
 Immelt has been a GE vice president since 1988 and has served as general manager of GE Plastics' commercial operations in the Americas since early last year. Prior to that he was responsible for worldwide marketing and product management for GE Appliances, and earlier led consumer service and market development for the Appliance business.
 He joined GE in 1982 in corporate marketing and came to Plastics the following year as manager of business development for NORYL(R) resin products. He went on to become general manager of plastics sales for the western region in the United States in 1987 and general manager of new business development in 1989.
 Andrews has led GE Plastics Americas since mid-1990 and earlier had been vice president and general manager of GE Silicones, an operating component of GE Plastics.
 GE Plastics Americas includes all resin production, technical support operations, and commercial operations throughout North, Central and South America. It is headquartered in Pittsfield. GE Plastics' other resin businesses are located in Bergen op Zoom, the Netherlands, serving Europe; and in Singapore, serving Southeast Asia and the Pacific Rim.
 GE Plastics is the world leader in the manufacture and sales of engineering thermoplastic resins. In addition to resins, GE Plastics businesses include GE Silicones, GE Superabrasives, GE Specialty Chemicals, GE Electromaterials, and Polymerland, a resin distribution business.
