GE Global Research Scientist Named To Technology Review's List of the World's Top 35 Young Innovators.

NISKAYUNA, N.Y. -- Adam Rasheed to Be Recognized at Fifth Annual Emerging Technologies Conference at MIT September 28 & 29 and Profiled in October '05 Issue of Technology Review

GE Global Research, the centralized research organization of General Electric (NYSE: GE), today announced that Adam Rasheed, an aeronautical engineer, has been named to Technology Review Magazine's 2005 list of the world's Top 35 Young Innovators (TR35). Technology Review is MIT's Magazine of Innovation. Adam's selection represents the third year in a row that a GE scientist has made this prestigious list.

The TR35, chosen by the editors of Technology Review and an elite panel of judges, consists of 35 individuals under age 35 whose innovative work in technology has a profound impact on today's world. This year's honorees were recognized for their contributions in technologies that are poised to have a dramatic impact on the world.

Adam was recognized for his fundamental research contributions to an aircraft propulsion system based on a pulsed-detonation engine - a technology in which repeated detonations of fuel-air mixtures creates higher pressures than in conventional combustion chambers, offering significantly lower fuel consumption and reduction in emissions.

"Adam's contributions in pulsed detonation propulsion research have led to significant advances in our quest for the next evolution in aircraft propulsion," Michael Idelchik, Vice President and Acting Director of GE Global Research, said. Since joining GE Global Research in 2001, Adam has focused on propulsion and energy technologies. His most recent investigations focused on pulsed detonation engine turbine interactions with the vision of building a PDE-turbine hybrid engine where the conventional combustors are replaced with pulsed detonation combustors (PDC) in a gas turbine core. His experimental engine is the world's first multi-combustor pulsed detonation engine to drive a large-scale turbine, which is at core of today's turbofan engines. In addition, his hydrocarbon-fueled engine can operate continuously without the oxygen enrichment - a critical enabler for aircraft applications.
