GE DEBUTS INDUSTRY'S LARGEST CAPACITY OVER-THE-RANGE MICROWAVE OVENS

Additions to the GE and Profile Lines

LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- GE (NYSE: GE) is introducing a new series of "smart," over-the-range microwave ovens to its Profile(TM) and GE lines of appliances, featuring the industry's largest capacity at 1.3-cubic-feet.

The new Profile SpacemakerXL and GE SpacemakerXL line bring excellent performance and convenience features, designed to take the guesswork out of microwave cooking, in an attractive unit that gives consumers the largest capacity available.

Performance is Key

GE maximizes cooking performance with the introduction of the Circuwave Plus system to its Profile SpacemakerXL models and two of the three GE models. The Circuwave Plus system combines an interior turntable with a multi-directional distribution system that allows food to be cooked more evenly and efficiently. These models also offer 900 watts of power, the highest wattage presently available in an over-the- range microwave oven model, for quicker cooking results.

The Profile SpacemakerXL line also features sensor cooking, which allows the microwave to "sense" how done the food is and allow the cycle to be stopped when the food is ready, making microwave cooking more precise.

"Consumers who are looking for an over-the-range microwave are looking to free up counter space. They expect ample capacity, superb functionality, simplicity in use and convenience in cooking," says Ken Holland, marketing manager, GE microwaves. "The SpacemakerXL Series is designed to meet today's consumer needs in an innovative and unique fashion."

Both the GE and Profile models have excellent smoke removal capabilities and lighting performance. Over-the-range microwaves are designed to take the place of hoods above the range, making smoke removal an important factor. GE has redesigned its smoke removal system to pull smoke from both the front and back burners on the stove, a benefit that anyone in the house can appreciate. The SpacemakerXL series has also conquered the issue of proper lighting above the range by providing tubular lighting that extends from front to back of the base of the microwave. This type of lighting arrangement emits light over the actual heating elements for ease in viewing foods on the stove.

The SpacemakerXL series has a sleek, integrated look that is designed to complement cabinetry and cooking products. It also has the added benefit of a larger window for better visibility of foods while they are cooking.

Allowing extra counter space in the kitchen is only one of the many convenience benefits of the SpacemakerXL series. The series has been enhanced to include an easier to understand and operate control panel and display area. These enhancements offer several consumer friendly features, including a scrolling seven-digit display with increased clarity and a convenient "Help" pad that explains any feature of the microwave at the touch of a button. Other convenience features, available on some models, include a programmable night light and an adjustable rack that can easily handle large oblong dishes and provide for two level cooking.

The new over-the-range microwave oven models in both the profile and GE lines will be available beginning in May 1996 at a suggested retail price range of $379-479. The Profile SpacemakerXL models are available as JVM1350 models in white (JVM1350WW), black (JVM1350BW) and almond (JVM1350AW). The JVM1340 models are GE models that are available in white (JVM1340WW), black(JVM1340BW), and almond (JVM1340AW). Two other GE models also available are the JVM1339 and JVM1330 models in white (JVM1339WW/1330WW) and black (JVM1339BW/1330BW).
