GCC TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES LOW-COST WIDE FORMAT 17-inch X 22-inch PRINTER

GCC TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES LOW-COST WIDE FORMAT
 17-inch X 22-inch PRINTER
WALTHAM, Mass., March 23, 1992 - GCC Technologies(R) today expanded its printer line with the introduction of the WideWriter(tm) 360, a wide format 360 dpi bubble jet printer. The new WideWriter 360 is aimed at professionals requiring large output for super-sized spreadsheets, CAD drawings, desktop publishing, newsletters, and other Macintosh applications requiring the flexibility of printing on a variety of paper sizes including 17" x 22" (C size).
GCC has designed the WideWriter 360 with versatile paper handling capabilities to ensure that users can produce documents in various sizes from a variety of software packages. The WideWriter 360's custom print driver supports paper as small as 3.5-inch wide and as large as 17 inches wide, while the length of paper is only limited by the size a given application will support. To enhance WideWriter 360's paper handling capabilities, the printer will come standard with one automatic sheet feeder and will support a second optional sheet feeder. The print driver will allow users to appropriately select between both sheet feeders when printing multiple page documents.
"What's truly unique about the WideWriter 360 is its ability to bridge the gap between the standard 8.5" x 11" page printer and the D-size plotter," said John Eide, owner of Eide Associates architectural firm. "Now I can avoid going through the hassle of setting up my plotter and can use a single printer for all of my needs. It's just outstanding."
Jonathan Hurd, vice president of marketing for GCC added, "Until the development of the WideWriter 360, Macintosh-based companies requiring large-format output had been forced to tile their work or reduce it to fit on 8.5" x 11" paper. They're anxious for a high-quality solution, and that's exactly what weUve provided."
GCC has also designed the WideWriter 360 with several innovative features that optimize the printerUs functionality. Users will have the ability to print directly to the WideWriter through an RS-422 serial connection or may opt to network the printer over AppleTalk(R). The WideWriter 360 will automatically sense upon powerup whether it's connected via AppleTalk or through serial, and will properly configure itself. GCC has also integrated a 68000 micro-processor into the printer which handles AppleTalk data compression and decompression, as well as all standard engine functions.
To increase versatility GCC has implemented several print options for the WideWriter 360. These options include the ability to select unidirectional, bidirectional, or high-quality bidirectional printing. High-quality bidirectional printing will automatically detect adjacent data and intelligently select either unidirectional or bidirectional printing, giving
the user the highest quality printing at the fastest possible speed. The WideWriter 360 also provides the ability to choose one of three print modes; "draft" mode which quickly print documents for proofing while saving ink; "medium draft" for letter quality proofing; or "high-quality" for printing laser quality output. In addition, GCC has incorporated an intelligent white-space skipping function into the WideWriter 360's driver for increased speed. White space skipping advances the print head to those areas that require ink, skipping past white space on the left, right or bottom of the page to optimize print speed.
Built around GCC's PLP 4.0 software, the QuickDraw-based WideWriter 360 will include a chooser selectable driver, Adobe Type Manager (ATM) and 21 fonts. The fonts are Adobe(R) Type 1 versions of Times(R), Courier, Helvetica(R), Helvetica Narrow, Symbol, and Palatino(R). WideWriter 360 will also support TrueType fonts for added flexibility.
The WideWriter 360 will retail for $1,699 and includes a one-year limited warranty on all parts and service. WideWriter 360 and all other GCC products may be purchased from any of GCCUs hundreds of authorized dealers in the U.S. and Canada, or directly from GCC by calling 800-422-7777. Customer Service hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (EST), and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (EST).
