GATHERING OF ARCHITECTURAL/URBAN PLANNING TALENT ON SOUTH BEACH; SIX-DAY CHARRETTE INCLUDES PUBLIC FORUMS TO SHAPE PLANS FOR SOUTH POINTE

 MIAMI BEACH, Fla., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Design teams from Arquitectonica to Zyscovich will set their sites on South Beach this week, in a major gathering of design and planning talent at the South Pointe Charrette (June 16-21 at the venerable Joe's Stone Crab Restaurant). And on June 21, the teams will unveil plans for much of the area south of 5th Street known as South Pointe.
 DPZ Architects (Andres Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk), the Charrette coordinators, have chosen firms from the U.S, Europe, and Japan including: Abdel Wahed El-Wakil Associates (England/Saudi Arabia), Arata Isozaki (Tokyo), Arquitectonica (Coral Gables), Bermello, Ajamil & Partners, Inc. (Miami), Bernard Spoerry Architect & Town Planner (Paris), Michael Graves, Architect (New York City), Robert A. M. Stern, Architects (New York City), Sandy & Babcock, Inc. (San Francisco/Miami), Sieger Architectural Partnership (Miami), STA Architects (Miami Beach), and Zyscovich, Inc. (Miami).
 The Charrette will include a number of public forums focusing on particular aspects of urban design including technical/infrastructure matters; hotel, security and retail consultants; marina issues; and property owners and developers. Design teams will work almost continuously during the six-day event to complete plans for the Monday evening final presentation, complete with renderings. This event is also open to the public, however, seating is limited at all events.
