GATEWAY ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF WNIM(R)+ ADAPTER
FOR NOVELL REMOTE ACCESS SOFTWARE PRODUCTS
IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Gateway Communications Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: GWAY), manufacturer of award-winning network products for the IBM PC market, announced today that its WNIM+ communications adapter, used as the standard hardware platform for Novell's NetWare Access Server, NetWare Asynchronous Communications Server and NetWare Asynchronous Remote Router software products, is now available from Gateway.
The WNIM+ is a powerful communications coprocessor board that drives Novell communications software to provide users with high-performance, low-cost asynchronous communications capabilities to and from their NetWare-based local area network (LAN).
According to Bert R. Ott, vice president of sales and marketing at Gateway, "The WNIM+ adapter has been the standard hardware platform for Novell since the introduction of their NAS wide area communications software in 1985. In fact the communications software was specifically developed for and written to the WNIM+ because of the WNIM's unique ability to process data reliably, and at the highest level of performance.
"Until recently, Novell was the sole OEM for Gateway's WNIM+. Now, for the first time, Gateway's WNIM+ is available directly from the source."
WNIM+ hardware consists of an adapter which features a built-in Zilog-Z80B communications coprocessor chip and 64 KB of windowed RAM. The coprocessor allows the adapter to off-load intensive character handling functions from the hosting PC for improved performance.
Each WNIM+ supports up to four connections at 19.2 Kbps. Cables supplied with each WNIM+ connect asynchronous modems to each WNIM+ adapter. As many as four WNIM+ adapters may be installed in each Novell NAS or NACS, and up to two WNIM+ adapters may be installed in each Novell NetWare Asynchronous Remote Router.
Priced at $895, the WNIM+ is available now to authorized Gateway distributors.
