GATES FRIENDLY WITH CABLE RIVAL MURDOCH.

Cable's Fox News Channel may be in a battle of sorts with all-news MSNBC MSNBC Microsoft/National Broadcasting Company  for channel space in New York City New York City: see New York, city.
New York City

City (pop., 2000: 8,008,278), southeastern New York, at the mouth of the Hudson River. The largest city in the U.S.
, but that didn't stop MSNBC co-owner Bill Gates from visiting the Rupert Murdoch-owned FNC FNC - Federal Networking Council .

Gates, promoting a new book, did an on-air interview at FNC and later toured the studios with network head Roger Ailes. Gates also posed for a photo with Murdoch.

The billionaire computer software giant (whose Microsoft partnered with NBC to create MSNBC) also appeared Monday in CNN's studio for a brief chat.

Ironically, Gates, who was interviewed about his book by MSNBC's Brian Williams in Las Vegas a week ago, has never been on air live from MSNBC's Fort Lee, N.J., studios.

An MSNBC spokeswoman pointed out that despite the fact that Williams' interview with Gates was via satellite, it did give MSNBC the first Gates book-tour talk. And while conceding that Gates has never been to the Fort Lee studios, she said he was expected to visit at some point when he ``can spend some quality time.''
