GAS PRICE FALLS 3.1 CENTS, AAA SAYS

 ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second month in a row, the average self-serve regular unleaded gasoline price dropped, continuing to reverse five months of price increases, the American Automobile Association reported today.
 AAA's Fuel Gauge Report shows the nationwide average price of self- serve regular unleaded gasoline declined 3.1 cents to $1.157 per gallon. The price had risen more than 13 cents between March and August.
 The national average price for mid-grade self-serve unleaded also fell 3.1 cents, to $1.25 per gallon. Self-serve premium unleaded was down 2.7 cents to $1.334.
 This month's full serve prices were down for all grades. Full-serve regular declined 1.4 cents to $1.414 per gallon. Mid-grade was down 1.9 cents to $1.506. Premium fell 1.5 cents to $1.567.
 The highest regional average price of regular self-serve unleaded gas was in the West at $1.292 per gallon, down 1.2 cents from last month, and lowest in the Southeast at $1.094, off 1.8 cents.
 Other average regional prices also declined: New England, $1.172 per gallon, off 1.3 cents; Southwest, $1.155, down 2.8 cents; Mid- Atlantic $1.144, down 1.4 cents; Midwest, $1.129, down 6.4 cents; and Great Lakes, $1.114, down 6.4 cents.
 Nationally, 35 percent of the stations surveyed will operate 24 hours, AAA said.
 The AAA Fuel Gauge survey was conducted by Computer Petroleum Corp. of St. Paul, Minn., which publishes the National Petroleum Price Index that monitors more than 90,000 daily wholesale and retail prices in the United States and Canada.
 AAA is a not-for-profit federation of 126 motor clubs with more than 1,000 offices providing more than 36 million members in the U.S. and Canada with travel, insurance, financial and auto-related services.
