Division III (or DIII) is a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association of the United States. . ``We sure didn't come out of nowhere,'' said Tony Haynes, who coaches the La Canada girls' cross country team along with Dennis McNulty. ``A goal was set, and all the things that happened was a reward. We want to build upon last year's expectations and do the same thing.'' La Canada had been hoping for another showdown with Nordhoff, the four-time state Division IV champion, but has set its focus on the more difficult competition it will face. ``I was looking forward to beating Nordhoff,'' junior Kim Garnic said. ``It will be a little more difficult in Division III, but it will be more competition and I am glad about that.'' With Garnic, who finished fourth in last year's state final, and senior Sheila Maude, the Spartans should do well.
