GARDEN PATHS ABUZZ ON TOUR.

Byline: Jim Feehan The Register-Guard

Sherold Barr works hard to produce a garden that's well-organized, beautifully tended and luscious when seen in the ripe days of summer.

Her terraced garden incorporates venerable trees and shrubs with fragrance and shade plants. Lilies, heirloom roses, clematis clematis (klĕm`ətĭs, kləmăt`ĭs), any plant of the large genus Clematis (sometimes subdivided into three or four genera), widely distributed herbs or vines of the family Ranunculaceae (buttercup family), many of them , daphne and herbs such as lavender and rosemary line an area around her deck, and a gravel path leads to a shade garden Shade gardens are gardens planted and grown in areas with little or no direct sunlight during the day, either under trees or on the shady sides of buildings. Shade gardening presents certain challenges, in part because only certain plants are able to grow in shady conditions. , with hellebores, Japanese forest grass, laurel trees and a towering fir.

to enjoy the moment in our garden," said Barr, who shared her special place with literally hundreds of guests who attended the 10th annual KLCC KLCC Kuala Lumpur City Centre (Malaysia)  in Bloom Garden Tour on Sunday.

A total of 10 gardens were featured in this year's radio station fund-raising event - five sites located within three blocks of McMillan Street near Civic Stadium and the other five along a short stretch of Fairmount Boulevard, a few blocks southeast of the University of Oregon campus The University of Oregon campus in Eugene, Oregon has around 80 buildings and facilities, including athletics sites such as Hayward Field, which is the site for the 2008 Olympic Track and Field Trials, and McArthur Court, and off-campus sites such as nearby Autzen Stadium and the .

About 2,100 people attended the self-guided tour A self-guided tour is where one navigates a route themselves as opposed to an escorted tours where a tour guide person directs the route, times, information, and places toured. Pleasant weather, locating the tour in two neighborhoods and including the garden of UO President Dave Frohnmayer on the tour helped boost attendance, she said.

Gardens, with all of their intricacies and harmonies, have often been compared to music, and Sunday's tour was a veritable symphony for Barbara Styles of Eugene.

"It's a wonderful way to enjoy the day," she said. "I especially like the pathways through the gardens made of brick, stone, mulch mulch, any material, usually organic, that is spread on the ground to protect the soil and the roots of plants from the effects of soil crusting, erosion, or freezing; it is also used to retard the growth of weeds.  and pebbles."

The tour provided gardeners with a myriad of design, art and plant ideas, and visitors were encouraged to bring along a notebook and pencil to jot down Verb 1. jot down - write briefly or hurriedly; write a short note of

Chuck Hammer of Springfield predicted that the tour will result in a few new projects at his place.

"My wife (Kathy) is the visionary at home," he said. "I'm the doer, the labor."
