African violet

Any plant of the genus Saintpaulia, of the gesneriad family, especially S. ionantha. African violets are native to high elevations in tropical eastern Africa.
 Society presents a show and sale with members answering questions and giving hints on violet culture, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 12, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 13. Topanga Plaza Mall, Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Vanowen Street, Canoga Park.

The 1997 Festival of Flowers at Descanso Gardens Descanso Gardens is a 160-acre botanical garden and historical site located at 1418 Descanso Drive, La CaƱada Flintridge, California, USA. Situated in a natural “bowl” in the San Rafael Hills, this calming, urban retreat is just 14 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.  takes place 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until April 13. Flower shows, plant sales, walking tours and other activities are scheduled. Descanso Gardens is at 1418 Descanso Drive, La Canada Flintridge. Admission: $5 adults, $3 seniors and students. Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Garden Club meets on April 15 with the following events: Plant Market and Corner Cupboard (for fund-raising) and plant specimen display, 9:30 a.m.; business meeting, 10 a.m.; horticulture horticulture [Lat. hortus=garden], science and art of gardening and of cultivating fruits, vegetables, flowers, and ornamental plants. Horticulture generally refers to small-scale gardening, and agriculture to the growing of field crops, usually on a large  workshop on planting your own spring vegetable garden, 10:15 a.m.; program on butterflies, 11 a.m. Bring your own bag lunch.
