GANG SWEEP NETS 4 ARRESTS.

Byline: Sylvia L. Oliande Daily News Staff Writer

An early morning gang sweep through Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. , Moorpark and Chatsworth this week resulted in the arrest of four reputed reputed adj. referring to what is accepted by general public belief, whether or not correct.  gang members on probation violations.

Among those arrested were Genaro Gonzales, 19, and a 15-year-old boy for weapons violations in connection with the injury stabbing of a 17-year-old rival gang member Oct. 8.

The gang sweep was in part a routine check of members on probation, and in part an effort to halt gang activity that has escalated here since the start of school.

``Gang sweeps are our way of delivering that zero-tolerance message to our gang members,'' said Police Chief Randy G. Adams. ``It shows them that they really need to toe the line Verb 1. toe the line - do what is expected
abide by, comply, follow - act in accordance with someone's rules, commands, or wishes; "He complied with my instructions"; "You must comply or else!"; "Follow these simple rules"; "abide by the rules"
because we don't want gang activity in our city.''

Authorities said there are approximately 100 identified gang members living in the area, primarily members of two Latino factions.

The action was the city's 16th gang sweep since 1995. The department from time to time conducts large-scale random searches of the homes and property of many gang members on probation.

``We're going to take all legal means to see that it stops,'' said City Councilman Paul Miller The name Paul Miller is shared by a number of people.

The sweep early Wednesday morning, conducted by members of the Simi Valley Police Department The Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) is the police department of the city of Simi Valley, California. The department currently has over 120 sworn officers, and more than 65 support personnel[1]. Thirty-three locations were targeted, including the homes of suspected gang members in nearby Moorpark and Chatsworth thought to be sympathetic to one of the groups whose members reside in the city.

Among those arrested, Gonzales was booked in the East Valley Jail, and the 15-year-old was cited and released to his parents.

Also arrested during the sweep were Genaro Garcia, 24, who was booked in East Valley Jail for an outstanding warrant on a weapons charge, and a 19-year-old man who was cited and released for being under the influence of a narcotic narcotic, any of a number of substances that have a depressant effect on the nervous system. The chief narcotic drugs are opium, its constituents morphine and codeine, and the morphine derivative heroin.

. Authorities said the latter man's name was being withheld because he was on juvenile probation.

Finally, eight juveniles face punishment for violating the terms of their probation for various offenses, including possessing gang or tagging paraphernalia PARAPHERNALIA. The name given to all such things as a woman has a right to retain as her own property, after her husband's death; they consist generally of her clothing, jewels, and ornaments suitable to her condition, which she used personally during his life.  or possession of alcohol or marijuana marijuana or marihuana, drug obtained from the flowering tops, stems, and leaves of the hemp plant, Cannabis sativa (see hemp) or C. indica; the latter species can withstand colder climates. .

The sweep was conducted in response to several gang-related incidents, including fights, graffiti and vandalism, that have happened in the city since the start of school.

In September, two juveniles were pistol-whipped and their car windows were shot out by rival gang members at a gas station on Cochran Street. And the night of Oct. 8, a 17-year-old boy was stabbed during a fight in a wash north of Rancho Simi Rancho San José de Nuestra Senora de Altagarcia y Simi is one of the land grants in California by the Spanish government. The name derives from Shimiji, the name of the Chumash village here before the Spanish.  Park.

Despite suffering multiple stab wounds in his back, the unidentified boy was able to flee the scene on foot.

In response to escalating gang activity in 1995 that began with the shooting of a gang member by a rival on a bicycle, Simi Valley established a gang task force and a unit in the Police Department to control local gangs.

``We'd known they'd been around, it just hadn't escalated to that point where people are killed,'' Miller said of that period. ``(Gangs) have to understand that this is not going to happen here. It may be tolerated in other parts of the country, but not here.''
