Byline: ROSS WILKINSON

THE fantastic Fallout 3 gives PS3 gamers an RPG experience to remember this week, while Quantum of Solace on Xbox 360 is an admirable Bond shooter.

Midnight Club Los Angeles proves Rockstar is just as capable of creating a fuss around its racer titles on Xbox 360, and Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol 1 is a corking fighter collection on PS2.

Finally, High School Musical 3: Senior Year on Nintendo DS gives all young gamers the chance to spend some time at toe-tapping East High.

GAME OF THE WEEK:

POST-APOCALYPTIC RPG HAS REAL

STAR QUALITY

Title: Fallout 3

Platform: PS3

Genre: Action RPG

Price: pounds 49.99

Star rating: *****

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion brought next-generation RPGs to another level, and those little developing devils at Bethesda have been at it again. Where Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean dared to tread in Oblivion, Liam Neeson this time brings true cinematic quality to what can only be described as a video game epic that's going to engross and astound PS3 gamers this winter.

A GOLDEN GAME BEYOND

GOLDENEYE

Title: Quantum Of Solace

Platform: Xbox 360

Genre: Action

Price: pounds 49.99

Star rating: ****

Every Bond game will cast a gamer's mind back to the seminal Goldeneye that blew everyone's mind on the N64. Quantum Of Solace harks back to a much more recent shooter, drawing upon Call of Duty 4:

Modern Warfare for its game engine and environments. It's no bad thing as the graphics and gameplay are equally crisp and engaging, and the single player story packs the punch of Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace bundled together.

YOU'LL BE PLAYING THIS WELL

PAST MIDNIGHT

Title: Midnight Club Los Angeles

Platform: Xbox 360

Genre: Racing

Price: pounds 44.99

Star rating: ****

The no-holds-barred racing action moves to Los Angeles and Rockstar, fresh from its GTA IV exploits earlier in the year, has turned its attention to the adrenalin-pumping racer series and created a real challenge for its fans. It plays just as good as it looks, albeit with a pretty steep learning curve, but the hard work is well worth it as you enjoy blasting through the beautiful city environments with a load of cops on your tail!

WHAT'S HOT AND WHAT'S NOT

Some of this season's hot new releases are experiencing a less-than-smooth transition to the shelves, with PS3 phenomenon Little Big Planet the first to suffer after lyrics from the Muslim Koran were found in some of the licensed music. It will now appear from November 3. Resident Evil 5 also came under fire recently when claims of racism were levelled against the game - which Capcom has denied - sparked by a trailer that showed images of black zombies being killed by a white protagonist. In the charts this week, Fable II pipped Far Cry 2 to top spot in the battle of the new entries, sending football titles FIFA 09 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 tumbling into third and fourth spot.
