GAMEPRO: GAMEPRO HONORED FOR CREATIVE EXCELLENCE

SAN MATEO, Calif., Dec. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- GamePro magazine has announced that its March 1992 issue was awarded a coveted Ozzie Award for Design Excellence. As well, GamePro received a National Visions Award for a 30-second television commercial.
The Ozzie Award is sponsored by Magazine Design & Production magazine. GamePro received an honorable mention certificate for Best Cover, Consumer (over 100,000 circulation). The March 1992 cover featured the popular game Street Fighter II illustrated by Gary Yealdhall and art directed by Francis Mao, GamePro's director of Creative Services.
"We are pleased to receive such an honor," said Mao. "Each month we strive for our covers to appeal to us, but more importantly to appeal to our readers. The March issue was a perfect example of our commitment to go for the max graphically because the cover story lent itself to our style of 'in-you-face' graphics."
The National Visions Award has been given to GamePro for Best Use of Special Effects in a 30-second television commercial. The television spot for GamePro's newsstand sales is fast-paced and fresh, featuring a video gamer that gets caught in the middle of the action while playing his favorite video game. The video gamer gets "sucked" into his television and must turn to the pages of GamePro magazine to discover the right strategy to defeat his opponent. The spot was produced by MediaMix Inc.; Mark Ligon, producer; Telemation Studios and Radio City Recording. The special effects were done by Telemation Studios.
"We immediately loved the special effects and felt that it successfully conveyed the feeling of being in a video game," said Patrick Ferrell, president and founder of GamePro magazine. "The spot has proven to be very successful in increasing our newsstand sales. We are honored to receive such an award for a spot that succeeds on a creative and sales level."
