GADDAFI'S SON: VICTIMS OF LOCKERBIE ARE JUST GREEDY; Libyan's sick outburst over attack.

THE son of President Gaddafi has caused outrage by calling Lockerbie families "greedy" for seeking compensation.

In an astonishing outburst, Saif Al Islam Al Gaddafi said Libya took responsibility for the bombing atrocity only to rescue its oil industry, which was suffering international sanctions International sanctions are actions taken by countries against others for political reasons, either unilaterally or multilaterally.

There are three types of sanctions.
  • Diplomatic sanctions - the reduction or removal of diplomatic ties, such as embassies.

Saif, the Libyan leader's second eldest son and probable heir, said of the Lockerbie relatives: "I think they were very greedy and they were trading with the blood of their sons and daughters. They were asking for more money and more money and more money and talking just about money.

"Money, money, money! The Americans and British said you have to satisfy the families to lift the sanctions. We said we are responsible but it doesn't mean we did it."

His words will horrify relatives of the victims of Britain's worst terrorist attack. Dr Jim Swire Dr Jim Swire was born in 1936 in Windsor in Berkshire. "For the Libyans it was a business deal to recover their oil industry - and that's what happened."

The accused
