GABBY'S TEARS FOR TRAGIC TOT IN WORKHOUSE.


TV sports presenter Gabby Logan Gabby Logan (born Gabrielle Nicole Yorath on 24 April 1973) is a British television presenter and former Welsh international gymnast. , 36, wept when she was told about the fate of 20-month-old Blanche Yorath during a TV show tracing her family tree.

Blanche was the daughter of Gabby's great-great grandmother Clara.

The toddler was sent to the workhouse because Clara, a widow, could not afford to keep her at home.

Docks Blanche died in the Union workhouse in Cardiff in 1906. The cause of death was diarrhoea and vomiting.

Gabby, who is married to former rugby international Kenny Logan Kenneth McKerrow Logan (born 3 April 1972 in Stirling) is a rugby union footballer who plays wing for London Scottish and formerly Scotland.

As a schoolboy Logan had soccer trials as a goalkeeper for Dundee United and Hearts.
, said yesterday: "I felt absolutely heartbroken when I found out. It was distressing and emotionally draining to realise what had happened to my family."

Gabby also discovered Clara's husband David Yorath, a Cardiff docks labourer, died of TB aged 35, leaving Clara to raise five children by herself.

Clarahad already lost two babies, who died from malnutrition. One of her sons was later killed, aged 19, in World War I. Gabby said: "I can't begin to imagine how Clara dealt with these deaths as a mother."

The presenter found out about the family heartbreak while filming the BBC Wales series Coming Home, which will be screened on Monday night.

Gabby, who is the daughter of Wales soccer legend Terry Yorath, suffered a devastating loss in her own life when her brother Daniel died while playing football with his dad.

She was only 19 when 15-year-old Daniel collapsed and died in the garden of the family's home in Leeds. He had a chronic heart condition.

Gabby and husband Kenny have four-year-old twins, Reuben and Lois.
