GAA STAY OUT OF CORK WAR.Byline: By PAT NOLAN Patrick J. Nolan (born 1950) is an American lawyer, politician, and activist. Nolan began his career as a conservative activist. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California. THE GAA last night washed its hands of the hurling dispute in Cork having spoken to all parties involved. Central Council agreed to come on board as mediators last week but it has now come to the conclusion "there is no apparent meaningful role" for them. All eyes will now be diverted to Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday when Gerald McCarthy's 2009 panel take on Dublin in the opening round of the National League. It appears the best chance the 2008 squad has of seeing action again this year is for the team to suffer comprehensive defeats to both Dublin and Tipperary on Saturday week in their opening two games which may then turn public opinion against the management. Meanwhile, Richie Connor Richie Connor was a gaelic football player with Offaly. He also managed the Laois senior football team. As a player Richie was captain of the Offaly team which won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship title in 1982, denying the great Kerry team a prestigious five in a row looks set to hang on as Offaly senior football manager until the weekend despite the fact his selectors Ollie Daly and Mark Plunkett have already resigned. CAPTION(S): PRESSURE Gerald McCarthy Gerald McCarthy (born September, 1945) is an Irish hurling manager and former player, currently in his first season as manager of the Cork senior inter-county team. He played hurling with his local club St. Finbarr's and with the Cork senior inter-county team from 1965 until 1979. |
