GAA: FORDE GEARS UP FOR FOOTBALL.

Byline: PAUL KEANE Paul Keane (born in 1958) is an Australian actor well known for playing Des Clarke in the soap opera Neighbours. Other TV credits include Bliss and Flight Into Hell. He was trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1983.

WEXFORD star Matty Forde Matty Forde is a Gaelic footballer from Kilanerin, County Wexford, Ireland. In recent years, he has established himself as one of the top forwards in the game, regularly racking up high scores. He plays club football with Kilanerin and intercounty for Wexford.  has revealed that his head and not his heart ruled the decision to put football first this season.

AllStar Forde has ended weeks of speculation by confirming that he'll continue to focus on football alone ahead of the National League campaign.

That's great news for football boss Pat Roe but a blow to new hurling chief Seamus Murphy who had hoped to have Forde on board.

Forde, the GPA's Footballer of the Year Footballer of the Year may refer to:
  • African Footballer of the Year
  • Asian Footballer of the Year
  • European Footballer of the Year
  • FIFA World Player of the Year
  • German Footballer of the Year
  • Oceania Footballer of the Year
, has a fine hurling background with Ballyfad and would have loved to pull on the purple and gold.

But he admitted his head came to a different conclusion when he weighed up the strains it would have put on his body.

Forde said: "I came to the decision that playing the two at inter-county level would have been too much of a commitment and too much strain on my body.

"As much as I'd like to play hurling I realised that it's difficult enough to play one sport at the top level, let alone two.

"When it came to a straight choice it was always going to be football."
