Central to the talks will be the planned appointment of a full time Alcohol and Drugs Awareness Officer within the GAA. Last year's Alcohol and Substance Abuse report recommended that a full-time officer be appointed and Kelly wants the position filled by May. Kelly moved quickly, however, to rule out speculation that Guinness' sponsorship deal of the All-Ireland Hurling Championships could be altered in any way. The report recommends the 'phasing out' of sponsorship links with drinks companies. Kelly added: "I can't see the Guinness deal changing before it runs out, that deal is a fait d'accompli. "In fairness to Guinness they continually go out of their way to encourage responsible drinking and that should be commended." |
