GAA: ALCOHOL MOVE IS BREWING.

Byline: PAUL KEANE Paul Keane (born in 1958) is an Australian actor well known for playing Des Clarke in the soap opera Neighbours. Other TV credits include Bliss and Flight Into Hell. He was trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1983.

GAA President Sean Kelly Sean Kelly is the name of:
  • Sean Kelly (International Playboy) (born 1964)
  • Seán Kelly (cyclist) (born 1956)
  • Sean Kelly (Singer and guitarist of The Samples)
will meet with representatives of Irish Minister for Health Mary Harney Mary Harney (Irish: Máire Ní Áirne; born 11 March, 1953) is an Irish politician and the leader of the Progressive Democrats.[1]  in the next fortnight to continue discussions about curbing alcohol abuse in society.

Central to the talks will be the planned appointment of a full time Alcohol and Drugs Awareness Officer within the GAA.

Last year's Alcohol and Substance Abuse report recommended that a full-time officer be appointed and Kelly wants the position filled by May.

Kelly moved quickly, however, to rule out speculation that Guinness' sponsorship deal of the All-Ireland Hurling Championships could be altered in any way.

The report recommends the 'phasing out' of sponsorship links with drinks companies.

Kelly added: "I can't see the Guinness deal changing before it runs out, that deal is a fait d'accompli.

"In fairness to Guinness they continually go out of their way to encourage responsible drinking and that should be commended."
