GAA: A fixed penalty notice for Cross star McDonald; LATE HEARTACHE FOR CIARAN; Salthill 0-9 Crossmolina 0-7.

Byline: By JOHN FALLON John Fallon (born Cambuslang, 1940) was a goalkeeper for Celtic F.C., who was a member of the famous Lisbon Lions of 1967.

Fallon was taken on as a junior by Celtic, and soon was promoted to cover for the famous eccentric keeper Frank Haffey.

MAYO star Ciaran McDonald suffered the heartbreak of missing a penalty five minutes from time as Crossmolina were dumped out of the Connacht club championship.

McDonald, Crossmolina's outstanding player throughout, blasted a penalty off the crossbar after former Football of the Year Michael Donnellan This article is about the Irish politician. For his grandson, the footballer, see Michael Donnellan (GAA Player).

Former Wolves soccer player Crowe showed the Mayo men how to score when he kicked the game's first point after nine minutes.

Crossmolina finally got off the mark a minute later when Keane pointed from 40 yards, but that turned out to be their only score from play with the wind.

Salthill's short-passing game yielded two points within a minute close to half-time with Seamie Rabbitte and Sean Armstrong, who was earlier off target with a goal effort, finding the range.

McDonald pointed another free a minute from the break but the sides went in level at 0-4 each when Armstrong was at the end of a fine passing movement involving Galway hurler Alan Kerins and Anthony McDermott to point.

Crossmolina, though, refused to buckle and were rewarded with points from Brian Benson and Michael Moyles to again take the lead going into the final quarter.

However, Crowe took over and after equalising in the 46th minute he pushed them ahead with 10 minutes remaining with a superb point from 45 yards.

McDonald was then presented with the chance of swinging the game but it was Salthill who held on to advance to the final as they again bid to lift the Connacht title, having done so in 1990 when they won their only other Galway crown.
