Fury over thug kids.

TEACHERS are demanding urgent action against attacks from pupils and parents.

Two major unions have called for help after figures revealed a rise in threats and violence.

The Scottish Secondary Teachers' Association Founded in 1944, the Scottish Secondary Teachers' Association (SSTA) is Scotland's second largest teachers' union, set up to focus on secondary issues, initially as a reaction to the perception of undue influence exercised on national education issues at that time by the primary  said the number of harassment cases against its members rose by 40 per cent in 2003.

And the Educational Institute of Scotland The Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) is the oldest teachers' trade union in the world, having been founded in 1847 when dominies became concerned about the effect of changes to the system of education in Scotland on their professional status.  said incidents of violence against staff had gone up by more than 20 per cent.

David Eaglesham, general secretary of the SSTA, said: ``There is too much emphasis on the rights of parents and pupils and too little on the protection of teachers.''
