Furukawa America's New FITEL(R) Connector Termination System Boosts Quality, Speed in Field Fiber Work.

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Furukawa America Inc., the leading supplier of FITEL FITEL First International Telecom [R] fiber optic equipment in the Americas, introduced today a new splice-on connector system to increase speed and limit insertion loss The amount of loss attributed to a particular device being used in (inserted into) the system. For example, a circuit added to filter out unwanted frequencies may reduce the output current by some amount. See injection loss.  during field fiber repair and customized FTTh/FTTp installations.

FITEL's innovative connector termination system consists of factory-polished ferrules with pre-cleaved fiber stubs stubs

along with high-strength, snap-on connector assemblies. These critical improvements speed installation time and ensure consistently higher quality terminations. Total insertion loss using this fusion splice A type of fiber-optic splice that melts the two ends of the fiber together using heat. Contrast with mechanical splice.  termination method measures .30dB or less for single mode fiber and is available in SC and FC connector A fiber-optic cable connector that uses a threaded plug and socket. For bi-directional transmission, two fiber cables and two FC connectors are generally used. FC is specified by the TIA as FOCIS-4. See fiber-optic connectors and FOCIS.  types.

FITEL's connector termination system also enables quick, made-to-length drop cable installations, a field customization that traditionally requires excess and costly preterminated jumpers and splice trays.

"Every fiber installer faces pressure for error-free work and speed," said Jason Greene, Furukawa America's fusion splicer splice

division manager. "Fiber-to-the-home installations and densely populated fiber hubs also present significant space constraints. Our FITEL connector termination system successfully addresses these issues and enables simple, fast and consistent field terminations." He added the splice-on connector brings greater speed and consistent quality to factory terminations as well.

FITEL's factory-polished ferrules with pre-cleaved fiber stubs are spliced onto the field fiber utilizing FITEL's proprietary ferrule A ceramic, plastic or stainless steel part of a fiber-optic plug that holds the end of the fiber and precisely aligns it to the socket. The fiber is inserted into the ferrule and cemented with an epoxy or adhesive, which gives it long-term mechanical strength and prevents contamination  holder and fusion splicer. Either an SC/APC, SC/UPC, FC/APC, or FC/UPC connector is then easily assembled using a process requiring minimal skill or training due to the precision and simplicity of the rugged connector components. FITEL's connector termination system features high quality, GR-326 tested and approved Seikoh Giken connectors, long known for their strength, durability and reliability.

Fiber management is also made easier with the FITEL splice-on connectors. The connector termination feature on the FITEL S122A clad alignment splicer and FITEL S177A core alignment splicer eliminates the need for splice trays, resulting in easier fiber management, reduced storage requirements and faster installation times.
