 members contributed more than 7,000 pieces of furniture--valued at $4 million--to the thousands of families whose homes were damaged or destroyed.

Furniture items were collected in a warehouse operated by the North Carolina Emergency Management Division and then transferred to staging areas for distribution to more than 1,200 needy families identified by the Salvation Army and other local charitable organizations. In addition to donated furnishings and transportation services, AFMA members also donated cash and supplies to assist flood victims. The AFMA campaign was the largest emergency relief effort in North Carolina and one of the largest on behalf of flood victims in the nation.
