Furnished with a new life.
Joan Oliver from Elswick has started up a business in Elswick Road with help from NEAT, the Newcastle Action Team for Jobs.
The 47-year-old single mum was deeply unhappy in her previous employment and felt there was no hope of her ever achieving her dream.
But then Joan contacted NEAT, which advised her how to start the business with a package of support and financial help.
NEAT has also provided Joan with a grants for the purchase of stock and start-up costs. Joan, who suffered from depression for six years, said: "The shop is my lifeline, a place where I feel happy."
Manager Suzanne Henderson and the rest of the team from NEAT have wished Joan well in her new venture and encouraged others to make use of their service.
Ms Henderson said: "The action team can provide one-to-one support from personal advisers to help people like Joan get back to work, whether it is self-employment or working for someone else, at a time and pace that is suitable for them."
If you live in the Newcastle area and are unemployed and would like to know how the Newcastle Employment Action Team can help you get back to work, call NEAT on 0800 587 0478.
