Of, relating to, or affected by schizophrenia. n. One who is affected with schizophrenia. . The author has a long note at the back of the book about how closely he sought the advice of experienced psychiatrists when writing about Penn, which helps me to recommend the book since I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed) "Don't know the trade." The voices he hears are from family and friends, who reveal to Penn the thoughts they are hiding. When Penn finds out that his uncle, now an alcoholic bum but once the chief of police in their town, experiences voices as well, the two figure they are special people, the pygmies. (I personally think this is an unfortunate choice of title.) Penn is a likable hero, and his older brother who had a traumatic birth and is mentally challenged as a result, his girlfriend, and his parents are all interesting people we like to read about. There aren't many books about adolescents experiencing the onset of schizophrenia--the most famous is I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, which is outdated--so this story has value just because of its subject matter.
