, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 12, 1996--Sigco Sun Products of Breckenridge credits the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Market Promotion Program with helping the company become the number one supplier of sunflowers to Turkey and other Middle Eastern countries. Sigco gained and applied the funding for international marketing support in 1995.

Other processed food exporters that apply by March 1 could be eligible for up to $200,000 in support through the MPP (Massively Parallel Processing or Massively Parallel Processor) A multiprocessing architecture that uses up to thousands of processors. Last year, 18 Minnesota firms received $800 million in MPP export promotion funding. ^ MPP funds aim to encourage food producers and processors to begin or to expand international export programs. The funding is made available through the Mid-America International Agri-Trade Council (MIATCO MIATCO Mid-America International Agri-Trade Council ), a Chicago-based association of Midwestern state departments of agriculture or state trade offices. The Minnesota Trade Office, a division of the Department of Trade and Economic Development, is a MIATCO member.

Companies may use MPP funds as part of a broad range of export-enhancing services. Under the program, companies can receive partial reimbursement Reimbursement

 for their promotional expenditures. Small companies (usually with fewer than 500 employees) may receive up to 50 percent reimbursement; all others are eligible for up to 33 percent. Women- and minority-owned businesses are encouraged to participate.

To receive MPP funds, companies must be fully incorporated in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. , have a product that is at least 50 percent U.S. agricultural in origin by weight, and must be willing to promote the product as "Made in the U.S.A." Eligible expenses include attendance at trade shows and advertising.
