For a Community Awareness Project that will encourage dialogue among non-profit and voluntary sector organizations to increase awareness of the common issues and challenges that these organizations face. It will design and implement a cross-Canada awareness and communications campaign with an agreed-upon and shared message targeted to a wide variety of audiences: general public, media, government, academia, and the private sector. The Project is being managed by the Project Partners Committee, that includes representatives of Imagine Canada, Canadian Council for International Cooperation, Canada Council for the Arts, Canadian Council on Social Development, Canadian Environmental Network, Sport Matters Group and Volunteer Canada. $1,399,850

Abilities Foundation of Nova Scotia, Halifax: For a wheelchair recycling program for people under the age of 18. The wheelchairs will be owned by the recycling program. User eligibility and possible family contribution will be based on family income. Eligible children will be offered a wheelchair to meet their specific needs. When they outgrow that chair, they will return it and receive another, more suitable chair from the program. A steering committee of representatives from community organizations and the Department of Community Services will monitor the program and participate in its evaluation. $500,000

Alzheimer Society of GreyBruce. To increase the capacity of the organization to recruit and train new volunteers, which will enable more clients to receive better service and support in rural and small communities. $70,000 over two years.

Alzheimer Society of Huron County Inc. $14,000 over six months to improve the agency's capacity to communicate with clients, caregivers and volunteers through purchase of new technology, internal networking and an upgraded website.

Association canadienne-francaise de l'Ontario, region Temiskaming. To work with francophone not-for-profit groups to develop an interactive website, which will help promote various activities, events and services in the francophone community, increasing participation and involvement. $13,800

Autism/PDD Family Alliance. To develop and expand this cooking club, which enables people with autism in the Dundas community to live independently or semi-independently and learn skills that may aid with employment and volunteer opportunities. $24,000 over four years.

Big Brother Association of Kingston and District. To develop a strategic plan for fundraising. Its implementation will increase awareness of the organization and increase revenue, which will improve service delivery and help more children in the area. $17,300 over 18 months.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hamilton and Burlington. To renovate a ramp to the building, improving safety and ensuring greater accessibility to people with disabilities in the community. $20,000 over one year.

The New NorthSaskatchewan Association of Northern Communities Services Inc. has received funding for its project Northern Communities. Responding to Violent Crime and Victimization. Funding for this project supports Northern communities in helping at-risk women and girls who suffer from isolation and inadequate resources, and provides tools to build community awareness against violence targeting women and girls. This initiative aims to educate the community by providing information and skills to reduce victimization and increase community safety and partnership between remote Northern communities. $24,500 306-425-5505

The Action Committee for Children at Risk, Regina: With Safety Services Inc., and Oyate Safe House has received funds for its second phase project, Talking/Sharing Circles, Phase II. The purpose of this project is to provide safety and support to predominantly First Nation and Metis children and youth aged 12 to 18, who are victims of sexual exploitation through the sex trade. Together with families, Elders, youth, and community facilitators, youth are assisted through cultural approaches that increase their resiliency to address the risks associated with the sex trade and gain strength to exit the trade through support, information and healing. $50,000 306-766-7591

YWCA of Yellowknife has received funds for its Project Child Recovery initiative. This project aims to provide practical support and skill-building activities to at-risk children 5 to 15 years of agewho have witnessed violence in their home. In doing so, it provides a safe place for children to express emotional issues, understand how violence has affected them, and learn non-violent problem-solving skills, including safety planning. $29,925 867-920-2777

Southslave Region.

Lutsel K'e Dene Band-Lutsel K'e, NT has received funds to implement the "On the Land Healing Program," which aims to strengthen relationships in the community by addressing issues from the past that are having an impact upon people's ability to lead healthy lives. Through On the Land community healing camps, youth and adults will participate in workshops that will encourage them to recognize personal behaviours necessary for positive social development, and to support each other and their community. The camp will also include activities focused on youth currently diverted to the local justice system. $49,590

Ottawa: Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) will provide a $13.5 million contribution over five years to the Aga Khan Foundation Canada, The AKFC, a Canadian charitable organization, deals with social and economic problems with an emphasis on health, education, environmental protection, and rural development. Its work contributes to poverty reduction strategies and national development targets for selected countries in Asia and Africa, and is in line with CIDA'S Social Development Priorities.

Laurentian University, Sudbury. For a food security project to be undertaken by Laurentian University in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The aim of the Capacity Building for Food Security Project is to enhance the ability of the School of Agronomy at the University of Kinshasa to provide quality higher education, and to strengthen the local communities in areas related to sustainable development and food security. It will also help to build the School's capacity to provide training on improving plant production and preserving the environment. $1-million.

Human Resources and Skills Development

JobStart, Toronto: For an Employment Assistance Services project targeted to help 325 unemployed experienced workers, 45 years of age and older, in Toronto. The project consists of four parts: Job Search, Career Decision Making, Job Development and Job Maintenance. The Job Search portion is directed to participants whose skills are no longer in demand. These participants will identify their transferable skills, learn self-marketing techniques and research current labour market trends. The Career Decision portion will help participants to develop career goals, and the Job Development activity will include employer outreach and job matching. Finally, in the Job Maintenance portion, an employment coach will help participants to identify issues they may have related to their ability to keep a job, to help them to keep employment. 416-954-1557 $447,000

Neighhour to Neighbour Centre, Hamilton. To help 180 unemployed individuals in Hamilton through the Centre's Job Finding Club administered by the Centre. Job Finding Club will present a series of interactive workshops to help participants acquire the employability skills needed to find meaningful work. The participants will learn self-marketing techniques and identify their employment related skills. The club will work with individuals to create a resume, search for jobs and prepare for interviews. Job Finding Club Facilitators will provide participants with ongoing support throughout their job search efforts. $174,786

Cle d'la Baie en Huroniem, Penetanguishene ON. To help 4,800 unemployed individuals in the town of Penetanguishene and surrounding areas to find and keep work through bilingual, self-serve employment resources. Participants will receive information on careers, and have access to computers and employment work shops including job search strategies, resume writing, networking, and other topics related to their employment needs. $255,836

Carrefour jeunesse emploi Saint-Laurent, QC. To continue the Velogik II project, to help nine youth from the Saint-Laurent region make a successful transition to the workplace. They will participate in workshops dealing with employability, entrepreneurship and climate change; will be introduced to bicycle mechanics; and will collect, repair, refurbish and service used bicycles, as well as manage orders. The participants will give workshops in schools and the community to educate young people about climate change and bicycle transportation. $135,317
