Southampton is Britain's second largest port. The London-Southampton railway, finished in 1840, and the double tide of the harbor made Southampton an important Community Preservation Fund for approximately $16.5 million. The property will be transferred in two separate closings of $9.5 and $7.0 million on or about February 28, 2007 and July 1, 2007 respectively. Once added to the Community Preservation Fund's existing real estate holdings, the sale will ensure that the property remains undeveloped--including what will be nearly a mile of land along the Great Peconic Bay The Peconic Bay is the parent name for two bays between the North Fork and the South Fork of Long Island in the U.S. state of New York. It is divided by Robins Island into the Great Peconic Bay on the west and Little Peconic Bay. . "The under utilization of the property by Girl Scouts from Nassau County and the opportunity to preserve the open space were important factors driving the sale of the camp to the Community Preservation Fund. This unique 'win-win' situation will allow the general public to enjoy the undeveloped space for years to come," said Jeffrey Herz, of Cullen and Dykman. Proceeds from the sale of the property will be put towards the purchase of meeting space and other Girl Scout programs. |
