Fund, award memorialize George Brooker.


To honor the memory of George Brooker, the Real Estate Board of New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 (REBNY REBNY Real Estate Board of New York ) has established a teaching fund and a professional award in his name. Steve Spinola, president of REBNY, made the announcement.

The George Brooker Teachers for Tomorrow Fund will sponsor internships enabling recent liberal arts college Liberal arts colleges are primarily colleges with an emphasis upon undergraduate study in the liberal arts. The Encyclopædia Britannica Concise offers the following definition of the liberal arts as a, "college or university curriculum aimed at imparting general knowledge  graduates to teach in East Harlem's District Four. The program's goal is to recruit motivated, gifted young people to teach in inner city schools; REBNY plans to raise some $300,000 over two years through the Fund to finance the program.

Board members who have each sponsored a teaching internship include Leonard Litwin Leonard Litwin is an American real estate developer specializing in residential construction through his company, Glenwood Management. He is also a billionaire and a member of the Forbes 400. , Bernard Mendik, Burton Resnick, Frederick Rose Dr. Frederick Rose was a British naval surgeon who was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 1858 for acts of kindness shown to sick American naval personnel. [1]

It was the first time a Congressional Gold Medal was given to any non-member of the US military.
, Sheldon Solow and Jerry Speyer Jerry I. Speyer (born on 23 June 1940, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is one of two founding partners of the prominent New York real estate company Tishman Speyer, the owner of the Chrysler Building and Rockefeller Center. . Contributions should be sent to The REBNY Foundation, The Real Estate Board of New York, 12 East 41st Street, New York, New York 10017, attention: Ms. Marolyn Davenport, vice president.

The Board's Management Person of the Year Award, presented annually at REBNY's January Banquet, will be renamed the George Brooker Management Person of the Year Award. Brooker, the first Board member to win this accolade, served as vice president for REBNY's Management Division from 1979 until his passing on August 18th.

Commenting on the memorial awards, Spinola said, "These memorials honor two of George Brooker's most intense concern: advancing the well-being of inner city young people, and maintaining high standards in the profession of real estate management. His splendid example inspires us to continue pursuing these important objectives. We believe George would be very proud of these efforts."
